Exploring Yoga Asana - Workshop series

Whether you have been practicing yoga for some time, or just starting on your yoga journey, this workshop series is a fantastic way to understand alignment principles and explore the basics of each asana shape.


What will we explore?

Asana is a Sanskrit word meaning “to take one’s seat”, mostly in meditation, but also the position your body takes in a yoga pose.  In this workshop series, we break down the fundamental traditional alignment principles of selected poses and build each shape from the ground up while giving you alternatives, options and the appropriate use of props to feel at ease in each shape. Knowing how to access a pose gives you freedom to explore the benefits of your practice in your own unique body shape.

This course is for all levels of yogis, whether you’re starting out or whether you need some refreshing or if you have nagging questions on what the shape should feel like and how to adjust your body parts to attain the purpose of the pose.

The workshops are spread over 5 weeks, with a focus on specific groups of poses in each workshop. You are invited to join all 5 workshops to gain the most out of this course, but if you only want to join one or two, you have the option to choose.

We have an added bonus Partner Pose workshop, which promises to be a whole lot of fun! 

WORKSHOP 1: SUN SALUTATIONS

  • Downward Facing Dog (+ twists and variations)
  • Low Plank Pose aka Chaturanga (+ variations)
  • Upward Facing Dog
  • Cobra Pose


WORKSHOP 2: STANDING POSES

  • Mountain Pose (+twists)
  • Warrior I vs. High Lunge
  • Warrior II (+ variations)
  • Triangle Pose
  • Chair Pose (+ twist)


WORKSHOP 3: SEATED POSES

  • Seated Forward Bend
  • Cobbler’s Pose/Butterfly Pose
  • Seated Twist/Pose of the Sage Marichi
  • ½ Pigeon Pose


WORKSHOP 4: BACKBENDS

  • Low lunge/Crescent Moon Pose
  • Locust Pose (+ Bow Pose)
  • Camel Pose (+ variations)
  • Bridge Pose (+ variations)
  • Wheel Pose


WORKSHOP 5: ARM BALANCES & INVERSIONS

  • Plough Pose
  • Supported Shoulder Stand (+ variations)
  • Forearm balance (Dolphin Pose + variations)
  • Crow Pose+
  • Handstands


What to bring along?

A notebook and pen if you wish.
